Services for Community Users

Your Library Card

Members of the public, as well as students and employees studying or working at another post-secondary institution in Canada (reciprocal borrowers) may request a Community Borrower card.

  • Members of the public must provide proof of B.C. residence; card holders must be at least 18 years of age. New community borrowers will be charged a $5 card fee.
  • Reciprocal borrowers must provide proof of enrolment or employment at a reciprocal-borrowing institution. There is no card fee.
  • Cards can be issued in the Chilliwack and Abbotsford libraries, from 30 minutes after opening until 30 minutes prior to closing.
  • Cards are valid for a 4-month period from the date of issue.
  • Cards may be renewed after verification of contact information, providing that there are no outstanding loans and all fines have been paid.

Borrowing from the Library

Be sure to review general information and policies on renewals, returning items, holds and transfers, overdue items, and paying fines. You must pay all outstanding library fines in order to renew your library privileges.

Loan Periods and Fines

You may borrow up to 10 items at any one time.

Using the Library

Library Computers

  • Ask at the service desk about access. Use is only available for UFV-related work as defined by the Computer and Internet Use Policy
  • BC government issued photo ID required
  • Limited to 1 hour per day (use may be denied during busy times and at library staff discretion)

Books & DVDs

  • DVDs and VHS videos available for in library use only
  • E-books and streaming videos available for on campus use only
