In addition to providing instruction and references services, I am the coordinator or manager for the following services, operations, and facilities in the Library:

Past roles with the UFV library have included serving as the coordinator or manager of the following:

• Information literacy (including coordination of library instruction classes)
• Library classrooms/drop-in labs

I am also the Library's liaison to the following programs:

As liaison, I provide support to faculty and students in these programs and coordinate development of the Library's collections in these areas.

I have been a librarian at UFV since 2005. Prior to that, I held positions as Library Instruction Coordinator at the University of Oregon (1996-2005) and as Systems Librarian at Eastern Oregon University (1994-1996). I also served as a librarian at a private high school and at an astrophysical observatory, both in Canada.

I have also been active in the UFV Faculty & Staff Association, serving as Joint Professional Development Committee co-chair in 2015, as Faculty Contract Administrator (aka Chief Steward) in 2018, and as Bargaining VP (formerly Chief Negotiator) 2016-2023.

I also completed all of the course work for an MA in Educational Technology and Learning Design at SFU (2008-2012), but circumstances prevented me from completing my thesis (and I'm OK with that).

Most of my teaching at UFV is course-related instruction, offering workshops and seminars focused on research skills and ways of thinking in the current information landscape to students in the context of a course or program they are taking. In these workshops, I try to provide an authentic experience to students as they work to develop information competency, one of UFV's 9 Institutional Learning Outcomes. Working with their assignments, and their topics, and using a combination of "thinking aloud" and guided student participation, I aim to expose students to the techniques, problem-solving strategies, and ways of thinking that experienced researchers use when conducting secondary research. I rely on the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education to identify key knowledge, skills and dispositions displayed by information competent individuals.

I also develop online guides and learning materials to support student learning, and I have a strong interest in working with faculty to develop students' information competency, in the content of specific assignments as well as across the curriculum.

Over my career I have taught several credit courses related to information competency and was instrumental in developing an online learning presence at my previous place of employment. More recently, I was hired to develop a course for the Department of Information Studies at UFV, and I taught its inaugural offering in the Winter 2021 semester. The course (LIBT 399D) is targeted at library technicians and focuses on developing skills for working with library data in support of library assessment programs.

Finally, since 2008 I have been a facilitator for the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW), a 3.5-day workshop that allows faculty to focus on developming their teaching skills through the delivery of mini-lessons and participant feedback.
